A dedicated folding bike for kids - Making riding easier

Parents always want to find a high-quality children's folding bike for their little ones, but they often find that there are limited options available in the market. To make matters worse, many bike models are challenging for kids to ride. Today, I bring you a folding bike designed specifically for children to make their riding experience much easier.

Horizon Flip 16 - A children's folding bike that breaks limitations and accommodates a wide range of heights

The folding bike we are introducing comes from a brand new Hong Kong brand called Horizon. Their brand philosophy is to broaden children's horizons through cycling activities. However, they understand the limited choices in the market and the challenges kids face when riding many bike models. Therefore, Horizon has specially redesigned this children's folding bike.

Firstly, the design of this Horizon folding bike is suitable for kids of different heights. For example, the seat height is adjustable, ranging from a minimum of 46cm to a maximum of 69cm. This allows the bike to grow with your child, accommodating their changing height over the years. Additionally, the handlebars are also adjustable, ensuring a comfortable riding position for different arm lengths.

This means that even smaller children, ranging from approximately 1.1 meters to 1.4 meters, can comfortably ride this bike. The age range typically spans from four or five years old up to nine or ten years old, covering a wide range of ages.

Flexible seat adjustment for a comfortable riding experience

This Horizon children's folding bike not only features adjustable seat height but also allows for the adjustment of the frame length, ensuring that kids do not have to overextend their bodies while riding. Additionally, considering the reach aspect, the handlebars are designed to be suitable and slightly narrower to accommodate the shoulder width of children. This ensures that when kids turn the handlebars, they don't have to overreach, thus ensuring stability and maneuverability during their rides.

Redesigned head tube for improved riding posture

To accommodate the height changes of children, the Horizon children's folding bike has also redesigned the head tube. Traditional folding bikes often have higher head tubes, which can result in children riding with their elbows suspended when we lower the seat. Having suspended elbows can lead to several issues. Firstly, it makes the riding experience more difficult for children. Secondly, it causes the center of gravity to tilt backward, affecting control and maneuverability.

However, the head tube design of the Horizon children's folding bike is shorter while still providing some adjustment space. This means that children can ride from approximately 1.1 meters to 1.4 meters in height, maintaining the proper riding posture regardless of height changes.

Taking pedal length into consideration with crank design

In addition to the adjustable seat and head tube, the Horizon children's folding bike also takes into account the length of the cranks. As the seat becomes lower, the position of the pedals also rises accordingly. If the pedal position is too close to the seat, children will not be able to fully extend their legs while riding.

To address this issue, the Horizon Flip 16 incorporates specially designed cranks that take into account the shorter leg length of children. This design ensures that children can naturally extend their legs while riding, avoiding any discomfort. The appropriate length of the cranks not only provides a better riding experience but also contributes to better control of the folding bike.

Low center of gravity design provides a more stable ride

The Horizon children's folding bike also focuses on adjusting the center of gravity in its design. Compared to similar types of children's folding bikes, its center of gravity has been lowered by approximately 10%. This is because all the power exerted on the pedals is transmitted from the central bottom bracket position.

When we ride a bicycle, there is often some lateral swaying or wobbling of the vehicle. However, if the center of gravity is lower, the bike becomes more stable. Therefore, the low center of gravity design of the Horizon children's folding bike provides a more stable riding experience, helping children better maintain balance and control.

16-inch tires provide a more stable ride

The Horizon Flip 16 children's folding bike specifically uses 16-inch tires, instead of the more common 14 or 12-inch tires found on typical children's folding bikes. This choice is based on several design considerations.

Firstly, the larger size of the 16-inch tires means they provide a more stable ride. The larger tire size offers a greater contact area with the ground, increasing the wheel's contact and providing improved stability and balance.

Secondly, larger tires are better at absorbing vibrations and shocks when riding on uneven surfaces. They are able to effectively dampen bumps and vibrations, resulting in a smoother and more comfortable riding experience. This is particularly important for children's comfort and safety.

The rear derailleur design and trigger-shifter operation offer several advantages in cycling

The Horizon Flip 16 children's folding bike also has a special advantage related to its rear derailleur and trigger-shifter operation. Traditionally, if a 14-inch tire is equipped with a derailleur, the rear derailleur would be very close to the ground. However, using 16-inch tires allows the rear derailleur to be positioned slightly higher, reducing the risk and cost of potential damage to the rear derailleur that children may encounter.

The Horizon Flip 16 is equipped with a 7-speed gearing system ranging from 14T to 28T and features a Shimano rear derailleur. Additionally, it offers trigger-shifter operation, specifically designed for the convenience of children. The trigger-shifter allows children to easily and accurately shift gears using their fingers, reducing the risk of unintentional gear shifts and potential speed jumps compared to traditional twist-style shifters.

Indeed, the thoughtful design considerations make the Horizon Flip 16 children's folding bike more suitable for children's use. It not only provides a smooth shifting experience but also reduces the likelihood of rear derailleur collisions and damage, thereby lowering maintenance costs and upkeep. This is an example of Horizon's continued focus on addressing the needs of children in their design.

Horizon Flip 16 allows for the installation of training wheels, making it easier for young children who are unfamiliar with riding a bicycle.

Even for four- or five-year-olds who don't know how to ride a bike yet, they can still ride the Horizon Flip 16 children's folding bike because this was also taken into consideration.

The training wheels provide additional stability and balance, helping children to grasp cycling skills more easily. Additionally, Horizon Flip 16 is equipped with a gearing system, allowing children to enjoy the benefits of shifting gears even with the training wheels attached.

Indeed, this thoughtful design consideration makes the Horizon Flip 16 an exceptional children's folding bike. It is not only suitable for children who already have basic cycling skills but also serves as an ideal choice for beginners. It provides a safe and stable environment for them to learn how to ride a bike.

Horizon Flip 16's overall design takes into consideration the ergonomics of children and optimizes various aspects.

For example, its brake lever design features a closer proximity to the handlebar, taking into account the smaller hands of four- and five-year-old children.

This close-proximity brake lever design allows children to brake without having to completely release their entire hand from the handlebar, making braking easier and preventing accidental release. This is an important advantage for children as it allows them to have better control over the brakes while maintaining a firm grip on the handlebar.

Horizon Flip 16 children's folding bike is designed with thoughtful accessories to enhance the riding experience.

Horizon Flip 16 children's folding bike is designed with thoughtful accessories to enhance the riding experience. Let's explore some of the accessories it offers.

Firstly, it is equipped with dedicated positions designed for placing a water bottle and a kickstand, allowing you to easily carry a water bottle and keep the bike stable and standing when parked.

What's more, Horizon Flip 16 also features a designated mounting position for a rear rack. This means that children can install a rear rack, allowing them to conveniently carry their backpack or other items while on the go.

Horizon Flip 16 children's folding bike excels not only in its thoughtful accessory design but also in its overall frame construction.

The bike frame is made of streamlined aluminum alloy, showcasing a sleek and stylish appearance. Additionally, it offers a variety of color options to choose from, allowing you to personalize your riding style.

Honestly, Horizon Flip 16 is one of the most outstanding children's bikes ever made. In addition to its design, there is one detail worth sharing, and that is the bottom kickstand.

This kickstand provides multiple benefits. Firstly, when folding the bike, it avoids damaging the crankset connection point, preventing the seat from touching the ground and getting damaged. Secondly, when we need to support the folded bike, there is no need to adjust the seat height every time. Just lower the seat post to the lowest position, and the kickstand will provide stable support, eliminating the hassle of the adjustment process.
