Video: Mint Bob 7 Brompton-style folding bike walkthrough and comparison (Jollymap YouTube channel, Cantonese)

The Mint Bob 7 is a 16-inch (349) chromoly tri-fold bike in the Brompton style. The 2024 version moves from 6 to 7 external speeds, with a 52T hollow crankset, caliper brakes and an M-bar, weighs about 11 kg, and comes with a front carrier block, rear rack, mudguards and a hand pump. It folds small and rolls steadily, for commuters who fold often and have limited space at home.

MINT-parts BOB7 2024 new version is upgraded from 6 speeds to 7 speeds, easy to push and pull, making it an excellent choice for commuters. This folding bicycle has a 7-speed M-bar option and a variety of color choices. It includes a front load block for attaching bags, baskets, and other accessories.

Key Facts

The Problem It Solves

Hong Kong homes are small, and a Brompton-style bike on 16-inch 349 wheels folds especially compact for home or office. The Bob 7 folds at the head post, mid-frame and rear triangle; the fork hooks onto the rear when folded and the seatpost can rest on the ground for stability, and once folded four easy-wheels share the weight so you can push it rather than lift it. In Jollymap's comparison with the Dahon Mini 349, the Bob 7 folded smaller, especially in height.

Who It Suits

Key Features

Chromoly frame for a comfortable ride

The whole bike is chromoly steel. Jollymap's review explains that chromoly's chromium and molybdenum alloying improves hardness, toughness and ductility, giving excellent shock absorption; the rear rack also adds some suspension, and rubber dampers at the fold soften vibration further. The mid-frame uses a CNC folding clamp, and the seatpost clamp is a Brompton-style aluminium clamp.

7-speed external gearing with 10-speed spacing

The 7-speed external system uses 7 o'clock components with an 11–26T cassette. Because the rear hub spacing is narrow, the 7-speed cassette uses 10-speed cogs and spacing with a 10-speed chain; the CNC-machined rear derailleur has a chain keeper. Up front is a 52T hollow CNC crankset with protective crank boots and folding Wellgo pedals.

M-bar and front carrier block

The M-shaped handlebar has ODI foam grips for a comfortable, non-slip hold; the brake levers and 7-speed shifter are Brompton-style. A front carrier block on the head lets you fit a front bag or basket.

349 wheels, caliper brakes and mudguards

16-inch 349 aluminium wheels run 1-3/8 skinwall tyres, with caliper brakes and mudguards. Hub spacing is 74 mm front and 112 mm rear, and the rear wheel design is essentially the same as a Brompton's.

Rack with easy-wheels

The rear rack integrates with the rear mudguard and carries easy-wheels; once folded, four easy-wheels share the weight so the bike stays stable when pushed.

Jollymap Recommends

The Bob 7 has limited saddle and handlebar adjustment, and the M-bar gives a slightly upright position; for a sportier position, Jollymap's review suggests switching to a flat bar. It can. Chromoly resists corrosion less well than aluminium, so wipe the frame and chain dry after riding in the rain. If you are unsure whether it fits your height, or whether a Brompton part will fit, chat with us or message our Jollymap Facebook page before ordering, with your height and the parts you want to fit.

FAQ

How much does the Mint Bob 7 weigh?

About 11 kg. Jollymap's review measured the Bob 7 at about 11.4 kg with pedals and rack.

What is the difference between the Mint Bob 7 and Bob 6?

The known difference is the gearing. The 2024 Bob 7 moves from the Bob 6's 6 speeds to 7-speed external gearing; the Bob 6 is the previous generation of the Bob 7.

Can the Mint Bob 7 use Brompton parts?

Some, yes. Mint is not made by Brompton, but Jollymap's review notes that the Bob 7's rear wheel design is essentially the same as a Brompton's, with 74 mm front and 112 mm rear hub spacing, so some Brompton parts fit. To check a specific part, contact us before ordering.

How does the Mint Bob 7 differ from the Bob 3?

The Bob 7 has 16-inch 349 wheels and 7-speed external gearing at about 11 kg; the Mint Bob 3 14inch Folding Bike is a 14-inch, external 3-speed (11-13-15T) bike listed at 9.2 kg without pedals. Choose the Bob 7 for more gears and bigger wheels, or the Bob 3 for lighter weight.

Can I take the Mint Bob 7 on the MTR or a bus when folded?

We cannot confirm this yet, as no reliable official folded size is available. The MTR limits luggage to 170 cm in total length, width and height, with no side over 130 cm, so check the actual folded size (including pedal width) before travelling. On franchised buses, the Public Bus Services Regulations (Cap. 230A) section 14 only allows free carriage of items within 5 kg and 0.1 m³, which a whole bike exceeds, so it is up to the bus company and driver; minibuses make no guarantee either.

Can I adjust the handlebar height on the Mint Bob 7?

No. The Bob 7's handlebar height is fixed, and the M-bar gives a slightly upright position; for a sportier position you would need to switch to a flat bar.

Are 7 speeds enough? How does it climb?

Enough for commuting and relaxed riding. With 52T up front and 11–26T at the back, Jollymap's review found it slower than the 9-speed, 55T Dahon Mini 349 and better suited to comfortable riding; if you often climb steep hills, consider a 9-speed folding bike with a wider range.

Will a chromoly frame rust?

It can. Chromoly resists corrosion less well than aluminium, and Jollymap's review notes that many chromoly frames are given an anti-corrosion coating at the factory. In Hong Kong's humid weather, wipe the frame and chain dry after rain and store the bike somewhere dry.

Where can I buy the Mint Bob 7 in Hong Kong?
