Product Description

BB ALPHA is CeramicSpeed's flagship bottom bracket line, engineered to outlast your frame. This model fits EVO386 press-fit frames paired with Shimano 24mm axle road cranksets, and is designed for road, triathlon, and track disciplines.

EVO386 (also known as BB386EVO) is a press-fit bottom bracket standard using a 46mm bore diameter and 86mm shell width, with bearings placed inboard — meaning the bearings sit inside the BB shell rather than outboard. This standard was developed collaboratively by several European frame manufacturers and is widely adopted across high-end road frames from Wilier, Bianchi, Pinarello, Colnago, De Rosa, BH, Orbea, Merida, Look, and others. The design philosophy of EVO386 combines the frame stiffness benefits of a large-diameter BB shell with a compact inboard bearing layout, while maintaining compatibility with multiple crank spindle diameters — simply swap the bottom bracket adapter to support 24mm (Shimano), 30mm (SRAM/FSA), or other standards.

This product is specifically engineered for Shimano 24mm axle cranksets. Because Shimano cranks (such as Dura-Ace, Ultegra, and 105 series) use a narrower 24mm hollow spindle, they require specially designed cups and spacer tubes within the larger 46mm EVO386 shell to ensure precise alignment and optimal bearing preload. The CeramicSpeed BB ALPHA is purpose-built for this requirement, delivering a perfect fit and ultra-low friction performance for Shimano cranks in EVO386 frames.

The bearing core uses grade-3 Silicon Nitride (Si₃N₄) ceramic balls paired with hardened stainless-steel races. The ceramic balls offer an exceptionally smooth surface and far greater hardness than steel, resulting in ultra-low friction and outstanding longevity. The hardened stainless-steel races are inherently corrosion resistant — ideal for riding in Hong Kong's hot and humid conditions where sweat and rain are constant challenges. The product features a black finish for a clean, understated aesthetic.

Protection is where BB ALPHA truly excels. Custom-engineered seals and precision dust covers were refined through 28 design iterations for optimal fitment, delivering 500% better moisture and contamination resistance than conventional designs. For press-fit bottom brackets with a 46mm bore like EVO386, sealing performance is especially critical — the larger open bore creates more potential pathways for moisture and contaminants to reach the bearings from either side or via the seat tube junction. BB ALPHA's 500% protection improvement directly addresses this vulnerability, dramatically extending bearing life even through regular rain rides and bike washes.

Structurally, the cups feature optimised material and geometry for maximum strength at reduced weight, while a simplified spacer tube design uses fewer parts for quicker, more intuitive installation. Together, these changes achieve a 10% weight saving over the previous generation, bringing the net weight to 97g. The press-fit installation ensures the cups mate tightly with the frame's BB shell via an interference fit, guaranteeing zero movement and eliminating creaking.

Every BB ALPHA is hand-assembled and quality-checked at CeramicSpeed's factory in Holstebro, Denmark, and is backed by a lifetime warranty for ultimate peace of mind.

Frame Compatibility

All road frames using the EVO386 (BB386EVO) press-fit bottom bracket standard (46mm bore diameter, 86mm shell width, inboard bearing placement). This standard is commonly found across brands such as Wilier, Bianchi, Pinarello (select models), Colnago, De Rosa, BH, Orbea, Merida, and Look.

⚠️ Before installation, confirm your frame's BB shell is EVO386 (46mm bore × 86mm width, inboard). Do not confuse with PF30 (46mm × 68mm) or BBright (46mm × 79mm asymmetric) — while all share the 46mm bore, shell widths differ. If your frame spec sheet states "EVO386", "BB386EVO", or "Press Fit 46×86 inboard", it is compatible with this product.

Crank Compatibility

All Shimano road cranksets with 24mm spindle, including but not limited to: Shimano Dura-Ace (R9100/R9200 series), Ultegra (R8000/R8100 series), 105 (R7000/R7100 series), GRX (if used in a road configuration), and earlier generation models.

⚠️ If your EVO386 frame requires a 30mm spindle crankset (e.g. SRAM, FSA, Rotor), please select the corresponding EVO386 30mm version. This product is designed exclusively for Shimano 24mm spindle cranksets.

Installation Notes

EVO386 uses a press-fit design, meaning both installation and removal require specialised tools. This BB falls within the 46mm press-fit category and shares installation procedures with BBright and PF30 types. It is recommended to have the work performed by a professional mechanic or to use the CeramicSpeed Bottom Bracket Tool Kit to ensure precise cup alignment during pressing. Before installation, thoroughly clean the frame's BB shell inner surface and apply an appropriate amount of grease (UFO TECH grease is included) to ensure smooth cup insertion and future serviceability. When installing Shimano cranks, the CeramicSpeed Alloy Preload Bolt for Shimano Cranks is recommended for optimal preload adjustment.
