What Problem Does It Solve?

Frog points out that budget kids' bikes are often as heavy as the child, which leads to frustration, and that buying a bike to "grow into" tends to put children off cycling. The Frog 53 uses an 8.15 kg aluminium frame with child-sized shifters, brake levers and cranks, so a 5 to 7 year old can control, shift and stop it on their own. The handlebar height adjusts within a 40 mm range and the seat post uses a quick-release clamp, so you can resize it at home as your child grows.

The 20-inch kids’ hybrid bike, is the fourth bike in our new and improved frame range, that has been carefully designed to help maximise the lifetime of the bike for a growing child. It is the ideal multi-purpose bike for 5 to 7-year-olds with an average inside leg of 53cm.

The handlebars can be lowered or raised within a range of 40mm and adjusting the seat height is easy to do at home with the quick release system. This means a Frog Bike will grow with your child making it a great investment.

The bike also offers a lower bottom bracket position to ensure a safer riding position with feet closer to the ground, whilst allowing for a greater leg-length range to be accommodated. An additional 10mm spacer is placed above the handlebar stem to give the option to raise the handlebars higher as your child grows.

The Frog 53 and Frog City 53 are the same size: choose the Frog 53 if your child mostly rides cycle tracks, country parks or gravel; choose the City 53 for town riding, a pannier rack and kickstand, and an easier step-through frame. Should I choose the Frog 47, Frog 53 or Frog 61?

Choose by inside leg. The Frog 47 (18-inch, single speed) fits 43-59 cm; the Frog 53 (20-inch, 8-speed) fits 50-65 cm; the Frog 61 (24-inch, 8-speed) fits 57-74 cm and ages 8-10. Frog advises against buying a bike for a child to "grow into".

Can I fit training wheels or a kickstand to the Frog 53?

The Frog 53 does not come with training wheels or a kickstand. Frog's list of included accessories is a bell, reflectors, mudguards, paint plasters and frame protector patches. The two Frog kickstands listed on Jollymap's shop are specified for 12-16 inch Frog bikes and for the City 61/67 respectively, so neither is listed for the Frog 53; contact us before ordering if you need one.
