Giant Defy - Endurance Bike
The Defy is made for modern-day endurance road riding. Long days in the saddle. Sunrise to sunset. Here’s to long rides. With effortless efficiency and quiet compliance, the Defy range of lightweight endurance road bikes is for riders equally interested in comfort as in speed. The relaxed-geometry composite frame and purpose-built components smooth out rough roads and minimize fatigue.
Made for real riders
One of the hallmarks of Defy is a commitment to improving performance without overcomplicating the design. Based on market feedback over the years—along with input received from top pros who have raced Defy bikes at events like Paris-Roubaix—the development team chose not to rely on shock absorbers, bushings or other add-ons that are used in many of today’s endurance road bikes. While those shock-absorbing technologies can sometimes achieve certain performance attributes, they compromise weight, durability and ease of maintenance—all factors that matter to real riders.
Functional simplicity
Free of cumbersome gimmickry, the frameset is one of the lightest in its category. With a perfect balance of a dynamic, high-performance handling and all-day comfort, it offers a “less is more” experience for modern endurance road riding. The frame for the flagship Defy Advanced SL is a feathery 785g (medium), weighing a full 195g (19.9 percent) less than the previous generation’s top-of-the-line model. It also boasts 8.9 percent greater transmission stiffness. At the front end, the fork used on the new Defy Advanced SL series weighs 345g, 61g lighter than the previous generation.
Key features of the Defy range
Engineered compliance
The Defy features integrated components with a focus on compliance. The first is the D-Fuse composite seatpost, created by Giant a decade ago and now commonly used by other brands. The heart of the design is a D-shaped composite shaft that absorbs shocks and adds a small amount of flexing action (up to 7mm). This significantly reduces the energy of bumps and vibrations that travel up through the saddle. Together, the Defy Advanced SL frameset and seatpost improve compliance by 42 percent compared to the previous generation Defy Advanced Pro.
D-Fuse up front
This technology is also applied to the front of the bike with new D-Fuse handlebars. The bars use similar D-shaped composite tubing on the tops, which creates greater downward compliance while at the same time increasing upward stiffness. This means you get shock-absorbing qualities and also better efficiency for hard, out-of-the-saddle efforts like sprinting or climbing. On the Defy Advanced 2, this comes as the Giant Contact SL D-Fuse handlebar.
Total control
From technical descents to rough roads, Defy is engineered for confidence and control in every situation. In addition to its endurance road geometry, an oversized and tapered steerer tube boosts stiffness up front for razor-sharp steering and cornering performance. The D-Fuse handlebars have a unique ergonomic shape with a short reach and an 8-degree flare at the drops for stable handling while descending, cornering, or battling strong crosswinds. The Giant Contact AeroLight stem is made with lightweight materials and an aero-optimized shape.
Integrated WheelSystems and brakes
Every Defy model comes with a WheelSystem and tires optimized for endurance road riding. The Defy Advanced 2 pairs a Giant P-R1 Disc alloy wheelset with Giant Gavia Fondo 1 tubeless tyres (700x32c), and the frame is rated for up to 40mm tyre clearance, so the wheels and tyres work as a system to deliver efficiency, grip and all-around control. Integrated hydraulic disc brakes (Shimano 105, 160mm front and rear rotors) deliver reliable braking power in dry or wet weather, on all kinds of road conditions. Thru-axles front and rear along with flat-mount calipers provide added stiffness, precision and stopping power for confident descending.

FAQ
How much does the Defy Advanced 2 weigh?
Giant does not publish a single official weight for this model. Giant's own specification page states that weight varies by frame size, colour finish, hardware and installed accessories, and recommends having your bike shop weigh the actual unit for an accurate figure. As a general reference only, Giant's 2025 Defy Advanced 1 (one tier up, with electronic Di2 shifting) was officially listed at 8.67kg for a size ML — actual weight of this Advanced 2 (mechanical 105, alloy wheels) will differ and should not be assumed from that figure.
What size should I get?
Use Giant's official recommended height ranges above as a starting point (for example, 172–180cm for size M), then check the full geometry table for reach and stack against a bike that already fits you well. Because saddle height, arm length and flexibility all affect fit, we recommend a Jollymap Bike Fit session to confirm before you buy, especially if you're between two sizes.
What's the difference between the Defy Advanced 2 and Defy Advanced 1?
Both use the same Advanced-grade Composite frame and geometry. The Advanced 1 upgrades to Shimano 105 Di2 electronic shifting (this Advanced 2 uses Shimano 105 mechanical shifting), at a higher price. Wheels and frame are otherwise comparable — the main decision is mechanical vs electronic shifting.
How is the Defy different from the Giant TCR or Propel?
The Defy uses a relaxed, endurance-focused geometry with a taller stack and D-Fuse compliance features, designed for comfort on long rides and rough road surfaces. The TCR is Giant's all-round race geometry, and the Propel is a dedicated aero race bike — both sit lower and more aggressive than the Defy. If you mainly do long weekend rides or sportives rather than racing, the Defy's geometry is usually more comfortable.
What's the maximum tyre size on the Defy Advanced 2?
The frame is officially rated for up to 40mm tyre clearance, and it ships with 700x32c tubeless-ready Giant Gavia Fondo 1 tyres. That leaves plenty of room to size up for extra comfort or grip on rough Hong Kong road surfaces without changing the frame.
Is this bike tubeless-ready, or does it come with inner tubes?
Giant's official specification lists the wheels and tyres as "tubeless prepared." Please contact us before ordering to confirm exactly what's included for tubeless conversion on the current stock.
How do disc brakes on the Defy hold up in Hong Kong's hot, humid weather?
Shimano 105 hydraulic disc brakes give more consistent stopping power in sudden rain than rim brakes, which suits Hong Kong's summer weather. As with any hydraulic system, we recommend a periodic brake fluid and pad check, particularly if you're riding long descents regularly.
