Giant XTC JR 20: a first mountain bike for kids

From neighborhood paths to family off road rides, XTC JR. gets them started on the trail.Boasting design inspiration from Giant adult mountain bikes, XtC Jr. is perfect for getting young trail riders stoked on riding dirt. Featuring a lightweight aluminium frame, fast-rolling 20 or 24-inch wheels and trail-ready tyres, XtC Jr. is ready for adventure.

HERE’S A TICKET TO HIT THE TRAIL. THE XTC JR. 20 IS THE PERFECT WAY TO INTRODUCE YOUNG RIDERS TO OFF-ROAD RIDING.

Lightweight frame

ALUXX-grade aluminum frame provides a lightweight, purpose-built chassis for aspiring young off-road riders. Giant describes ALUXX as 6061 alloy with single-butted tubes.

Confidence and control

Size-specific wheels and front suspension give young riders the performance they need for true off-road riding. The fork has 50mm of travel.

Kid-friendly features

Youth-specific performance components help young riders improve their off-road skills, including Giant Junior grips, a Giant Jr. Sports saddle and junior MTB brake levers.

Twist shifting that is easy to use

Shimano REVOSHIFT is a twist shifter: kids change gear by twisting the grip with thumb and index finger, without taking their hands off the bar. With 1x7 gearing (32T chainring, 14-28T cassette) there are more gear options for hills than on a single-speed kids' bike.

Features

Who is it for?

Good fit: Kids 120–140 cm tall who want to try slopes and gravel paths beyond flat ground.

Less suitable: Kids close to or above 140 cm, or growing fast, may be better on the 24-inch Giant XTC JR 24 (Giant recommends 130–150 cm). For mostly flat riding without suspension, see the rigid-fork Giant XTC JR 20 Lite.

FAQ

What height is the Giant XTC JR 20 for?

Giant recommends it for riders 120–140 cm tall. The stand-over height is 524 mm, so you can measure your child's inseam to compare.

What is the difference between the XTC JR 20 and XTC JR 24?

The main differences are wheel size and rider height: the XTC JR 20 has 20" wheels for riders 120–140 cm, while the XTC JR 24 has 24" wheels for riders 130–150 cm and a wider-range 14-34T cassette. Both have an aluminium frame, 50mm suspension fork, 7 speeds and V-brakes.

The fork. According to Giant's specifications, the XTC JR 20 has a 50mm-travel suspension fork, while the XTC JR 20 Lite has a rigid high-tensile steel fork with no suspension. Giant lists front suspension as part of what gives young riders the performance they need off-road.

V-brakes. Giant's official specification lists alloy linear-pull brakes (V-brakes) with junior MTB brake levers.

How do you change gear on the XTC JR 20?

With a twist shifter. Shimano REVOSHIFT lets the rider twist the grip with thumb and index finger to move through the 7 gears, without taking their hands off the bar.

Yes. Giant's official specification lists a bell and kickstand as extras.
