Looking for 2026 picks?

This is our 2024 round-up. For entry-level road bikes grouped by 2026 shop prices and still in stock, see our 2026 entry-level road bike guide (in Chinese).

Jollymap no longer sells the Hasa RS1 and RS2, Giant SCR 1 and SCR 2, Trek 2023 Domane AL2 or Java J-Air Fuoco covered below. The Merida Scultura Rim 100 was still listed as in stock at the time of writing.

Plenty of people, students included, fancy a road bike for the speed and the looks, and in Hong Kong it is easier to find somewhere to ride one than a mountain bike, whether on cycle tracks or on the road. The price tag puts many off. In 2024 we picked entry-level road bikes from Giant, Trek, Java, Merida and Hasa to show what a limited budget can buy.

Hasa RS2: an entry-level carbon rim-brake bike (no longer sold by Jollymap)

Hasa is a Taiwanese brand that many Hong Kong riders do not know. According to HASA's website it belongs to Heng Feng Bicycle, founded in 1990; in his RS1/RS2 video Jason says Hasa designs and assembles its own frames; ProCyclingStats lists Hasa as the bike supplier of UCI Continental team Inteja in 2019.

The RS2 was Hasa's entry-level carbon bike with rim brakes. Jason explains in his video that the frame uses Toray T800 carbon, and that the full groupset, including chainset and cassette, is 11-speed Shimano 105, with an FSA headset and Selle Italia saddle. Jollymap no longer sells the RS2. For Hasa's current models, see our Hasa road bike review.

Hasa RS1: disc brakes and Di2 (no longer sold by Jollymap)

The RS1 shares the RS2's geometry but adds disc brakes and a full Shimano 105 Di2 electronic groupset. Jason says the frame is also Toray T800 carbon, painted in Taiwan with German paint and a protective coat, and the thru-axle wheels come with a small tool hidden in the rear axle for removing the front wheel. Jollymap no longer sells the RS1.

Giant SCR 1 and SCR 2 (no longer sold by Jollymap)

Jollymap has stopped selling the Giant SCR range and will not restock it. For a similar Giant alloy bike, read our Giant Contend review. The SCR 1 used Giant's ALUXX aluminium frame with a carbon fork, a D-Fuse seatpost and Shimano Sora 2×9 gearing. The cheaper SCR 2 had an alloy fork and Shimano Claris 2×8, plus mounts for a rack and mudguards.

Trek Domane AL2, 2023 model (no longer sold by Jollymap)

The Domane AL2 is a disc-brake road bike for first-time riders, with an Alpha aluminium frame, mudguard mounts and 16-speed Shimano gearing. Its endurance geometry gives a more upright position. Jollymap no longer sells the 2023 model.

Merida Scultura Rim 100

The Scultura Rim 100 is Merida's entry-level rim-brake road bike. Our product page lists a triple-butted 6066 aluminium frame with internal cables, a full carbon tapered fork and Shimano Claris 8-speed. Its geometry is more upright than the race-focused Scultura models, which suits new riders. It was HK$5,396 in our shop on 8 October 2026, listed as in stock in black and titanium; please contact us to confirm size and delivery before buying. Limitation: rim brakes stop less well in the wet than disc brakes.
