Last updated: 7 October 2026 (added the 14 inch, 20 inch 8-speed and 24 inch 8-speed models, a full comparison table and height and weight charts)
Minivelo is a children's bike brand, and Jollymap currently stocks five models: 14 inch, 16 inch, 20 inch single-speed, 20 inch 8-speed and 24 inch 8-speed. According to our shop specs the range covers riders from about 90 to 160 cm tall, and every model has an aluminium frame. The 14 inch weighs 4.93 kg and the 16 inch 6.2 kg.
This page started life in September 2021 as the write-up of Jason's video on the first 16 and 20 inch bikes. The 24 inch 8-speed was already on sale then, and the 14 inch and 20 inch 8-speed have joined since, so we have rebuilt it around the current product pages and kept the design points from the video, marked as 2021 first-batch details. Minivelo is also the kids' bike brand we have sold the most of so far this year.
Key points
- Five sizes: 14 inch (90–120 cm), 16 inch (100–130 cm), 20 inch single-speed and 8-speed (115–150 cm), 24 inch 8-speed (125–160 cm), per our shop specs.
- Weights: 14 inch 4.93 kg and 16 inch 6.2 kg (shop specs); 24 inch 9.3 kg net; the 20 inch single-speed was about 7.2 kg in the 2021 video; no verified figure yet for the 20 inch 8-speed.
- The 2021 video says the 16 and 20 inch bikes take stabilisers; the 24 inch does not come with them.
- At 115–150 cm, pick the 20 inch: 8-speed for hilly routes, single-speed for flat cycle tracks.
What is Minivelo, and is it the same as a "mini velo" bike?
Minivelo is a brand that makes children's bikes; it is not a Jollymap house brand. The shop spec for the 14 inch lists China as the country of manufacture. We could not find an official Minivelo website or spec sheet, so the figures here come mainly from our product pages and Jason's 2021 video. The mainland Chinese cycling site Biketo also profiled the brand's GT16, GT20 and GT24 in 2022.
In English, "mini velo" usually means an adult bike with a normal-sized frame and small wheels. That is a different thing altogether, which is why a search for "mini velo" often turns up adult bikes.
What sizes are there, and what height does each fit?
Going by our shop specs, the five Minivelo models cover riders from 90 cm up to 160 cm, with overlap between neighbouring sizes so a child can move up one step at a time. The two 20 inch bikes share the same height range and differ only in gears.
| Model | Wheel | Gears | Seat height | Rider height |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minivelo 14 inch | 14 inch (14 x 1.95 tyres) | Single | 43–55 cm | 90–120 cm |
| Minivelo 16 inch | 16 inch (16 x 1.95 tyres) | Single | 46–54 cm | 100–130 cm |
| Minivelo 20 inch single | 20 inch | Single | 53–63 cm (2021 video) | 115–150 cm |
| Minivelo 20 inch 8-speed | 20 inch | 8-speed | No data | 115–150 cm |
| Minivelo 24 inch 8-speed | 24 inch | 8-speed | No data | 125–160 cm |

Height is only a starting point; seat height and inside leg tell you more. What we commonly see in the shop: a child who can already ride only needs tiptoes on the ground, while a beginner wants most or all of each foot down to feel safe, so a beginner may be better on the smaller size. Our guide kids' bike size chart explains how to measure.
How heavy are Minivelo bikes, and why so light?
Shop specs list the 14 inch at 4.93 kg and the 16 inch at 6.2 kg; the 24 inch 8-speed is 9.3 kg net according to our product information. There is no current shop weight for the 20 inch single-speed: Jason said the first batch weighed about 7.2 kg in the 2021 video. We have no verified weight for the 20 inch 8-speed.
In the video Jason gave 6.3 kg for the first 16 inch, 0.1 kg more than today's shop spec; we go with the shop spec. The weight-saving details he pointed out were on the 2021 bikes, and parts may change between batches: an all-aluminium build, a quick-release front wheel that also makes storage easier, sealed-bearing hubs instead of loose balls (the wheel kept spinning for two to three minutes in his test), a cut-out rear sprocket, and a BMX-style saddle adjusted with an Allen key from the top, which lets the seat sit lower.
16 inch or 20 inch, and can you fit stabilisers?
Both are single-speed with V-brakes. According to the 2021 video, the 16 inch has a taller handlebar that lets a small child sit upright and can be moved forwards or back; the 20 inch bar is lower so the rider's weight keeps the front end steady. The 16 inch bar is 19 mm thick against the usual 22.2 mm, easier for small hands, and the Tektro brake levers are sized for children. Cranks are 102 mm on the 16 inch (matching the shop spec) and 127 mm on the 20 inch (2021 video).
Watch the old and new seat heights: the video gave 43–53 cm for the 16 inch, while the current shop spec says 46–54 cm, so check the product page. Stabilisers can be added to the 16 and 20 inch bikes (2021 video); the 14 inch comes with a kickstand and stabilisers are sold separately; the 24 inch does not come with them.
Single-speed or 8-speed at 20 inch, and when to move to 24 inch?
Both 20 inch bikes are listed for 115–150 cm riders; the only sourced difference is the gears. If your child often rides up hills or bridges, the 8-speed lets them shift down; on flat cycle tracks the single-speed is simpler. We do not yet have the weight, brake or gear components of the 8-speed and will not borrow the single-speed's figures.
The 24 inch 8-speed (model GT24) suits riders of 125–160 cm. It has a 6061 aluminium frame, fork and rims, a rigid fork, V-brakes and a 9.3 kg net weight. Between 125 and 150 cm both sizes fit: a confident rider who is still growing can go to 24 inch, while a child who cannot reach the ground from the saddle should stay on 20 inch.

Minivelo 14 inch: a first pedal bike for smaller children
The lightest of the range at 4.93 kg (shop spec), with a 43–55 cm seat height, 102 mm cranks and a kickstand. Made for 90–120 cm riders on their first pedal bike. Stabilisers cost extra and we have no brake spec for it yet; a child close to 120 cm will get longer use from the 16 inch.

Minivelo 16 inch: tall bar, 6.2 kg, single-speed
6.2 kg, 46–54 cm seat height and 102 mm cranks, with V-brakes and a tall handlebar, for 100–130 cm riders. It is the bike shown in the 2021 video and takes stabilisers. With one gear, long climbs are hard work; fast-growing children over 120 cm could compare the 20 inch.

Minivelo 20 inch single-speed: simple, for flat rides
For 115–150 cm riders. The 2021 video gave about 7.2 kg, a 53–63 cm seat height and 127 mm cranks, with V-brakes and room for stabilisers. Those are first-batch figures not yet confirmed for the current batch, and hills are harder without gears.

Minivelo 20 inch 8-speed: for routes with hills
Same 115–150 cm range as the single-speed, with an aluminium frame and eight gears, so a child can learn to shift before moving up to 24 inch. We do not yet have its weight, brakes or gear components; contact us before buying if those matter to you.

Minivelo 24 inch 8-speed: for confident riders from 125 cm
Model GT24: 6061 aluminium frame, fork and rims, V-brakes, eight gears and 9.3 kg net, for 125–160 cm riders who already ride on their own. The fork is rigid, so rough gravel will feel bumpy; it suits cycle tracks and paved paths best, and it does not come with stabilisers.

FAQ
What age is the Minivelo 16 inch for?
According to Biketo's 2022 profile of the brand, Minivelo suggests about 4–8 years for the 16 inch, 6–11 for the 20 inch and 8–16 for the 24 inch. Children of the same age vary a lot in height, though, so go by height: our shop spec gives 100–130 cm for the 16 inch. Measure height and inside leg and compare them with the 46–54 cm seat height.
Can I fit stabilisers to a Minivelo?
The 16 inch and 20 inch single-speed take stabilisers, according to the 2021 video. The 14 inch has a kickstand with stabilisers sold separately, and the 24 inch 8-speed does not come with them. Ask us before buying to confirm stabilisers fit your model.
14 inch or 16 inch?
Children of 100–120 cm fall within both shop spec ranges. A beginner who still needs both feet flat on the ground suits the 14 inch; a confident, fast-growing rider will get longer use from the 16 inch.
Where can I buy Minivelo bikes in Hong Kong?
All five Minivelo models are sold in the Jollymap online shop and our store. At checkout you can choose Easy Take delivery, which brings the bike fully assembled.
