Last updated: 7 October 2026 (added a comparison chart of three Sooibe kids' folding bikes and an FAQ)
The Sooibe 005 is a 16-inch extendable kids' bike: the frame, seatpost and stem all adjust, Sooibe recommends it for riders 110 to 180 cm tall, and it comes with fold-up stabilisers (training wheels). As your child grows, you lengthen the bike instead of buying a new one every two or three years.
This article is based on our January 2026 YouTube review. Specifications follow Sooibe's official data and our product pages, and at the end we compare the 005 with Sooibe's 007 Pro and 009 so you can choose by height.
When does a child need a bigger bike?
Height charts are only half the story. Watch your child ride: if their knees knock the handlebar or getting on and off starts to look awkward, it is time to size up. Most kids' bikes are outgrown in about two to three years, which costs money and takes up space in a Hong Kong flat. That is why many parents look for a bike that can grow with the child.
What is the Sooibe 005?
Sooibe (書比) is a kids' bike brand from Hangzhou, China. The 005 rolls on 16-inch wheels, yet Sooibe lists a rider height range of 110 to 180 cm. The trick is the 6061 aluminium frame, which slides open in the middle by up to 80 mm.
In our video we estimate that this range is roughly the difference in frame length between an 18-inch and a 26-inch bike, three or four bike sizes. We suggest it for children of about 5 to 13; Sooibe itself gives a height range rather than ages. It also fills a gap: single-speed kids' bikes usually stop at 20 inches, while most 24-inch kids' bikes have gears, which is a big step for a beginner.
How do you adjust it, and does it stay put?
Every adjustment is tool-free. The extending frame has printed scale markings, so you can set it to your child's height and note the position. The inner tube is square inside a round outer tube, which stops the frame twisting once extended. The quick-release clamps have a locking catch so they cannot flip open by accident. The seatpost has 200 mm of marked adjustment (Sooibe's figure), and our video shows more than 20 cm of height range.
What helps when learning to ride?
The 005 is single speed with short 152 mm cranks that suit young legs. Sooibe's patented stabilisers fold up rather than come off, so you can lower them for the first rides and flip them up once your child can balance. Small details help too: V-brakes with levers sized for small hands, a soft saddle, folding pedals and a hidden carry handle on the frame.
Sooibe quotes 9.0 kg. On our scale it weighed 10.47 kg with stabilisers fitted. That is fine for most families, but it is heavier than the 14-inch 007 Pro (7.9 kg claimed), so keep it in mind if you carry bikes up stairs.
Which families is it for?
It suits city families, weekend rides and homes with two children of different ages: the younger one rides with stabilisers, the older one with the frame extended and the stabilisers folded away. Sooibe's website describes the 005 as a bike both adults and children can ride, and its official height limit is 180 cm.
Sooibe 005 vs 007 Pro vs 009: which one?
All three are aluminium folding kids' bikes from Sooibe. Under 110 cm, start with the 14-inch 007 Pro. Learning with stabilisers and want one bike for years? Pick the 005. Already balancing and keen to learn gears? Go for the 6-speed 009.
| Model | Rider height (Sooibe) | Weight (claimed) | Gears | Stabilisers | Product page |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sooibe 007 Pro (14") | 105–175 cm | 7.9 kg (a Taiwan retailer says this excludes stabilisers) | Single speed (retailer data) | Yes, fold-up | See the 007 Pro |
| Sooibe 005 Extendable (16") | 110–180 cm | 9.0 kg (10.47 kg on our scale with stabilisers) | Single speed | Yes, fold-up | See the 005 |

Sooibe 007 Pro 14": for riders under 110 cm who want a lighter bike
Sooibe recommends the 007 Pro for riders 105–175 cm tall, aged 4 to 13. At a claimed 7.9 kg it has the lowest official weight of the three, with an adjustable saddle and handlebar, fold-up stabilisers and a folded size of 58 x 27 x 52 cm. The downside: the frame itself does not extend, and according to a Taiwan retailer the 7.9 kg figure excludes the stabilisers, so it will weigh more with them fitted.

Sooibe 005 Extendable 16": start with stabilisers, keep it for years
The 005 is the only one of the three with an extending frame, so it suits children over 110 cm who still ride with stabilisers. It is heavier than the 007 Pro; check the product page for the colours currently in stock.

Sooibe 009 16" 6-speed: for confident riders ready for gears
The 009 pairs 16-inch wheels with Shimano 6-speed gearing, a KMC chain and V-brakes front and rear. Sooibe recommends it for riders 110–175 cm tall; it weighs 9.2 kg and folds in three steps to 65 x 33 x 57 cm. Stabilisers are not listed in the official specification, so it is better for children who can already balance. Note that the three weights are not measured the same way: the 009 is a claimed 9.2 kg; the 005 is a claimed 9.0 kg but weighed 10.47 kg on our scale with stabilisers; the 007 Pro is a claimed 7.9 kg, which a Taiwan retailer says excludes stabilisers.
