Key facts
- Category: 16-inch (349) folding bike, 9-speed, hydraulic disc brakes
- Brand: Dahon (founded in the USA in 1982, now mainly produced in Shenzhen), model K9 349, frame code KAA693, listed by Dahon Hong Kong as the "Hong Kong Edition"
- Standout features: Shimano Sora 9-speed shifter and rear derailleur, 11–32T cassette, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes
- Key numbers: about 10.57 kg (Dahon official); 16-inch 349 wheels; kickstand not included
- Best for: riders with hilly routes who care about braking feel and like a white frame with pink accents. For more colour choices, see the K9 International version
What problem does it solve?
Hong Kong routes are full of climbs. The K9 Hong Kong Edition fits an 11–32T cassette, a larger biggest cog than the 11–28T found on the K9 International version and the K3 Plus (Jollymap articles 295 and 257), giving you an easier gear for hills, and stops with Tektro hydraulic disc brakes. At about 10.57 kg (Dahon official), it still folds to fit a car boot or a corner at home.
Who is it for?
It suits riders who want Shimano gearing, hydraulic disc brakes and 349 wheels on a 16-inch folder, and those who like a light-coloured frame. The finish is white with pink, and Dahon's official photos show light blue accents around the seat tube. Note that Dahon has not published the folded size, maximum load or rider height range for the Hong Kong Edition, so please contact us before ordering if you often need to carry the bike on the MTR or are outside the typical size range.
Shimano Sora 9-speed
Dahon Hong Kong specifies a Shimano Sora 9-speed shifter and rear derailleur with an 11–32T cassette on this edition. The International version of the K9 uses Dahon's custom 9-speed system instead.
Tektro hydraulic disc brakes
Dahon Hong Kong lists Tektro hydraulic disc brakes for this edition. Among the Dahon K-series models compared on this page, it is the only one whose official page specifies hydraulic brakes: the K9X uses Tektro cable disc brakes, the K9 International version and K3 Plus pages just say "disc brakes", and the K3 uses V-brakes.
Flat-welded aluminium frame and Deltec cable
Hong Kong retailers list this bike as "flat-welded, Deltec cable", and Jollymap's earlier product notes describe a flat-welded aluminium frame with the Deltec cable; Dahon Hong Kong's page for this edition only says "aluminium". Jollymap's article 314 says flat welding gives a smoother-looking frame. The Deltec cable is Dahon's frame tension cable linking the head tube and down tube to form a triangle, which Dahon says increases frame rigidity by about 15%.

FAQ
What is the difference between the K9 Hong Kong Edition and the International version?
Mainly the gearing, brakes and colours. According to Dahon Hong Kong's product pages, the Hong Kong Edition uses a Shimano Sora 9-speed shifter and rear derailleur, an 11–32T cassette and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, weighs about 10.57 kg and comes in White/Pink only; the K9 International version uses Dahon custom 9-speed disc brakes, weighs 10.4 kg and comes in Black, Cream and Dark Green. Both have 16-inch 349 wheels and aluminium frames, and neither includes a kickstand.
How much does the Dahon K9 Hong Kong Edition weigh?
About 10.57 kg, as listed by Dahon Hong Kong, roughly 0.17 kg more than the 10.4 kg K9 International version.
What is the difference between the K9 and the K9X?
The K9 uses 349 wheels. The K9X uses 305 wheels, an internally routed frame and a fixed-height one-piece handlepost, with MKS quick-release pedals and Tektro cable disc brakes, at 9.5 kg (Dahon official). The Hong Kong Edition adds Shimano Sora gearing and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes.
What do "flat-welded" and "Deltec cable" mean?
Flat welding is a way of finishing the frame welds; Jollymap's article 314 says it gives the frame a smoother look. The Deltec cable (called "馬甲線" by Hong Kong riders) is Dahon's tension cable under the frame, linking the head tube and down tube to form a triangle, which Dahon says increases frame rigidity by about 15%. Dahon's page for this edition does not mention either, so please contact us if you need to confirm before ordering.
Does the K9 Hong Kong Edition come with a kickstand?
No. Dahon Hong Kong states that a kickstand is not included, so one must be bought separately; please contact us before ordering to check which kickstand fits.
Can I take the K9 Hong Kong Edition on the MTR?
We cannot confirm, because Dahon has not published this edition's folded size. MTR rules say the length, width and height of luggage must not add up to more than 170 cm; the K9 International version's official folded size of 72 x 40 x 61 cm already adds up to about 173 cm. On franchised buses, Regulation 14 of the Public Bus Services Regulations (Cap. 230A) only allows free carriage of items up to 5 kg and 0.1 cubic metres, which a folding bike usually exceeds.
Where can I buy the Dahon K9 Hong Kong Edition in Hong Kong?
Jollymap sells it online and in store. If you would like to compare it with other Dahon folding bikes before ordering, please chat with us or message our Facebook page.
Specifications and components follow the manufacturer's latest release and may change without notice. If in doubt, please contact us to confirm before ordering.
