What Problem Does It Solve?

If you fold your bike several times a day for the MTR, the folding steps and the folded size both matter. The QIX D3's vertical folding lets you roll the bike straight into folded mode, and it folds to just 60 x 26 x 67 cm, only 26 cm wide, so it is easy to keep at the office or in a corner at home.

Who Is It For?

The QIX D3 suits short-distance commuters who fold the bike onto the MTR or into the office every day, and riders with limited space who want a narrow folded package. The included rack and full fenders also help on wet days or when carrying small loads.

It is not recommended for riders over 85 kg (the official maximum), or for routes with many hills that need a wider gear range (it has only 3 speeds). These riders may prefer the 9- or 6-speed models below.

Vertical folding: roll it and it is folded

Dahon says the QIX D3's vertical folding technology lets the bike be rolled directly into folded mode, quickly and easily. The Qix Arc frame uses Dalloy aluminium tubing with a flush vertical hinge and forged BB struts. See Dahon's official Qix folding video below for how it folds.

Custom Dahon 3-speed and front/rear brakes

The drivetrain uses a 46T forged aluminium chainring with guard, a custom Dahon 3-speed rear derailleur and trigger shifter, and a 9/11/13T cassette, with a KMC RustBuster all-weather chain. Braking is a forged aluminium dual-pivot caliper at the front and a custom Dahon V-brake at the rear.

Rack and full fenders included

Dahon's specification lists an aluminium rack and full-wrap fenders, plus Dahon folding pedals; a kickstand is not included.

Jollymap Recommends

The QIX D3's strengths are its narrow fold and simple 3-speed setup, best for riders who fold often and ride short distances, for example from home to the MTR station before folding to board. If your route has more hills, or you are close to the 85 kg limit, choose a model with more gears and a higher load rating. Not sure it suits you? Before ordering, chat with us or message our Facebook page with your height, weight and usual route.

FAQ

What kind of folding bike is the Dahon QIX D3?

It is a 16-inch, 3-speed vertical-folding bike. It uses Dahon's vertical folding technology, so it rolls straight into folded mode; the model number is JAA633 and the frame is aluminium.

How much does the Dahon QIX D3 weigh and how big is it folded?

Dahon's official weight is 9.9 kg and the folded size is 60 x 26 x 67 cm (2021/2022 model specification).

Can I take the Dahon QIX D3 on the MTR?

By the official folded size, it is within the MTR luggage limit. MTR rules say luggage must not exceed 170 cm in length, width and height combined, with no side over 130 cm; the folded QIX D3 measures 60 x 26 x 67 cm, about 153 cm in total. On franchised buses, Regulation 14 of the Public Bus Services Regulations (Cap. 230A) only allows free carriage of items up to 5 kg and 0.1 cubic metres, which a folding bike usually exceeds.

What is the maximum rider weight of the Dahon QIX D3, and what height does it suit?

The maximum rider weight is 85 kg. Dahon does not list a recommended rider height; the bike has a forged aluminium Radius-V handlepost and a 580 mm seatpost, so tell us your height before ordering and we will help you check.

It has a rack and fenders but no kickstand. Dahon's specification lists an aluminium rack and full-wrap fenders, and "n/a" for the kickstand.

What is the difference between the Dahon QIX D3 and QIX D8?

The main differences are wheel size and gearing. The QIX D3 is 16-inch with 3 speeds; Dahon's official video describes the QIX D8 as the 20-inch version with a larger frame, an 8-speed SRAM drivetrain and V-brakes. Both use vertical folding. This page is for the QIX D3.
