The THIAB four-spoke carbon wheelset is a 16-inch (349) carbon wheelset co-branded with Funxtron and built specifically for the Funxtron F16 trifold bike: about 765 to 780 g a pair, with 74 mm front and 135 mm rear 12 mm thru-axle hubs that match the F16's disc-brake frame, so it fits with no modification. One-piece four-spoke carbon construction, a 36T planetary ratchet hub and Enduro G5 ceramic bearings come with a 3-year warranty, making it another way for F16 owners to cut weight.

What problem does this wheelset solve?
The Funxtron F16 uses a 74 mm front and 135 mm rear 12 mm thru-axle disc frame. That is different from the Java Neo (142 mm rear) and the Dahon K3 Plus, so most 349 carbon wheelsets on the market simply do not fit. The hub spacing of this wheelset is made to the F16, so it arrives in the right size with no adapters and no guesswork about whether it will clear the frame.
The other common headache is that spoked wheels go out of true over time and need periodic adjustment. A one-piece carbon four-spoke wheel has no spokes, so there is nothing to true. Before each ride you only need to check tyre pressure.
Who is it for?
This wheelset is for Funxtron F16 owners only. If you prefer a tri-spoke look or a wider rim, see the Suncord Tri-Spoke Carbon Wheelset for Funxtron F16. If you ride a Java Neo, choose the FEELNEO Tri-Spoke Carbon Ceramic Bearing Wheelset for Java Neo or the ODIN Tri-Spoke Carbon Wheelset for Java Neo. The rider weight limit is 110 kg including gear, so it is not recommended if you are close to or above that figure. The freehub takes 9 and 10-speed cassettes only; if you plan to move to an 11 or 12-speed drivetrain, choose a wheelset with a wider freehub range.
One-piece carbon four-spoke: stiff and maintenance-free
The rim and four spoke arms are moulded as a single piece. With no spokes there are no loose spokes and no truing, so long-term upkeep is far lower than a conventional wheel. The rim uses T800 plus T1000 carbon cloth, and the THIAB × FUNXTRON lettering on the spokes makes the co-branded design easy to spot.
Enduro G5 ceramic bearings: smooth rolling
The front hub has 2 bearings, the rear hub 2, and the freehub another 2, all Enduro G5 ceramic. Ceramic balls are hard and low in friction, which suits the stop-start rhythm of city riding on a folding bike.
36T planetary ratchet hub: quick engagement
The rear hub uses a 36T planetary ratchet. The hub body is 6061 aluminium alloy with the inner ring gear reinforced in 7075. With a small engagement angle there is little dead stroke when you resume pedalling after coasting, so pulling away from a red light feels more direct.
About 765 to 780 g a pair
The supplier quotes about 780 g a pair for the marble gloss and about 765 g for the marble matte, ±20 g. The photo below comes from the supplier and shows a matte pair on a digital scale reading 765 g, in line with the published figure. On a bike that weighs 9.7 kg complete, the wheels are one of the easiest places to save weight.

31 mm deep, 24.5 mm external width
The rim is 31 mm deep, 24.5 mm wide externally and 18.5 mm wide internally, with a recommended maximum pressure of 100 psi. The F16's original CST 349 x 1.35-inch tyres can be reused.

Colour options: marble gloss and marble matte
Both finishes have a marble-pattern carbon look and differ only in surface treatment:
- Marble gloss: a glossy finish that shows the carbon weave in depth under light, about 780 g ±20 g a pair
- Marble matte: a satin-matte finish with a quieter look, about 765 g ±20 g a pair
Apart from the finish the specification is identical, so choose to suit your frame colour and taste.
THIAB four-spoke vs Suncord tri-spoke: what is the difference?
Two 349 carbon wheelsets are now available for the Funxtron F16. Both have hubs made for the F16; the differences are in spoke count, rim dimensions and bearings. The Java Neo version is listed for reference only and does not fit the F16.

FAQ
Will this wheelset fit a Java Neo, Dahon K3 Plus or another 16-inch 349 folding bike?
No. This is the Funxtron F16 version with a 135 mm / 12 mm thru-axle rear hub. Java Neo owners should choose the FEELNEO Java Neo version or the ODIN Java Neo version, and Dahon K3 Plus owners the ODIN Dahon K3 Plus version. For any other bike, contact us first to check hub spacing and axle type.
Should I choose the THIAB four-spoke or the Suncord tri-spoke wheelset?
It depends on freehub speeds and personal taste. The THIAB four-spoke has ceramic bearings and a 3-year warranty, weighs about 765 to 780 g a pair and takes 9 and 10-speed cassettes; the Suncord tri-spoke has a wider rim (20 mm internal), takes 9 to 12-speed cassettes and weighs about 790 g a pair. The F16 comes with a 10-speed drivetrain, so either fits directly.
What are the benefits of carbon wheels over spoked wheels? Is it faster?
The main benefits are stiffness, weight and low maintenance rather than outright speed. The one-piece carbon structure flexes less under load, so pedalling feels more direct; at about 765 to 780 g a pair it is lighter than most 349 alloy spoked wheelsets; and with no spokes there is no truing. At typical folding-bike speeds do not expect a big jump in average speed from the wheels alone.
How much does the wheelset actually weigh?
About 780 g a pair for marble gloss and about 765 g for marble matte, ±20 g in both cases. The supplier's scale photo shows a matte pair at 765 g. The weight excludes tyres, rotors, cassette and thru-axles.
How long do carbon wheels last, and what are the drawbacks?
In normal use a carbon rim does not slowly deform through metal fatigue the way an alloy rim can, and this wheelset carries a 3-year warranty. The drawback is that carbon does not tolerate sharp impacts well: after hitting a pothole, a kerb or a crash, inspect the rim for cracks or delamination and stop riding it if in doubt. The rider limit is 110 kg; exceeding it shortens the wheel's life.
How should I clean and look after carbon wheels?
Wash with water, a mild detergent and a soft cloth. Avoid pointing a pressure washer at the hubs so water does not get into the bearings. Hong Kong's humid weather makes it worth wiping the wheels dry after a ride to extend bearing life. Carbon wheels need no periodic truing; just check tyre pressure and that the rotor bolts are tight.
How many speeds does the freehub take? Can I fit an 11 or 12-speed cassette?
No. This wheelset takes Shimano and SRAM 9 and 10-speed cassettes only, not 11 or 12-speed. The F16's original 10-speed cassette fits directly. If you plan to upgrade to an 11 or 12-speed drivetrain, choose a wheelset with a wider freehub range, such as the Suncord Funxtron F16 tri-spoke (9 to 12-speed).
Can I run tubeless tyres?
The supplier data does not state whether this rim is tubeless compatible, so we describe it for use with inner tubes. The recommended maximum pressure is 100 psi; the F16's original CST 349 x 1.35-inch tyres are rated at 85 psi, so inflate to the pressure printed on your tyre. If you would like to run tubeless, chat with us before buying.
What is the difference between marble gloss and marble matte?
Surface finish and weight. Marble gloss has a glossy surface that shows the carbon pattern in more depth and weighs about 780 g a pair; marble matte has a satin-matte surface and weighs about 765 g a pair. Specification, hubs and warranty are otherwise identical.
Does anything need adjusting after fitting the wheels? Can I reuse my rotors?
Only a quick check. The hubs use a Center Lock rotor mount, so the F16's original Center Lock rotors transfer straight across; if your rotors are 6-bolt you will need Center Lock rotors or an adapter. After moving the rotors and cassette across, the disc calipers may need a small realignment so the rotors do not rub; the gears normally need no adjustment. If you would like us to fit the wheels, chat with us to ask about fitting service.
