The Java Neo Front Derailleur Adapter (J Air Carbon) is a front derailleur mount for the Java Neo carbon frame, letting a single-chainring J-Air carbon Neo take a front derailleur and switch to a double chainring for a wider gear range. The adapter is engraved "J-AIR NEO CB 349/406/451", matching the 16-inch (349), 20-inch (406) and 20-inch (451) carbon frames. Aluminium-frame Neo models are not covered.

Why Can the Carbon Neo Go Double?
The carbon Java Neo adds twin mounting holes on the chainstay area, so a front derailleur system can be fitted through an adapter. In our Jollymap unboxing of the J-Air R we also noted that the J-Air R can run a double chainring precisely because its frame has a mount for this adapter, and that owners of the single-chainring J-Air Carbon can buy the adapter separately and upgrade to a double setup themselves.
The stock J-Air carbon Neo runs a 50T single chainring with an 11–40T cassette, while the Java NEO Carbon 20" 451 105 Di2 Folding Road Bike (J-Air R) comes with a 52/36T double, a useful reference if you are planning an upgrade.
Compatible Bikes
- 16-inch (349) carbon: Java NEO J Air Carbon EX12 16" Folding Bike
- 20-inch (406) carbon: Java NEO J Air Carbon 20" 12-Speed Folding Bike
- 20-inch (451) carbon: Java NEO Carbon 20" 451 105 Di2 Folding Road Bike (already double from the factory)
Not compatible: aluminium-frame Java Neo models, including all current 20-inch 9-speed versions (Shimano CUES 9-speed with an 11–40T cassette, such as the Java NEO 20" 9-Speed Folding Bike and 20" 9-Speed Carbon Fork Folding Bike). This adapter is specified for carbon frames.
What Else Do You Need to Go Double?
The adapter only provides a place to mount the front derailleur. A double setup also needs a front derailleur, a double crankset, and a shifter or electronic shifting system to control the front derailleur. There is currently no information on whether the J-Air's stock Wheeltop 12-speed electronic system can work with a front derailleur, so please contact us to confirm the full parts list before ordering.
Jollymap Recommends
Going double involves several parts, the derailleur, crankset and shifting system, so decide on the whole setup before buying. Chat with us or message our Jollymap Facebook page before ordering, with your frame model, a photo of the mounting holes and the shifting system you plan to use. FAQ
What is a front derailleur adapter?
It is a mount that fixes the front derailleur to the frame. This one is made for the Java Neo carbon frame and bolts onto the twin holes on the chainstay area, so a single-chainring J-Air can take a front derailleur.
What is the difference between a front and rear derailleur?
The front derailleur moves the chain between the front chainrings, while the rear derailleur moves it across the cassette cogs. A single-chainring bike only has a rear derailleur; you need to add a front derailleur to go double.
Does it fit an aluminium-frame Java Neo?
No. This adapter is specified for carbon frames, and the derailleur mounting holes are a feature added on the carbon version. All current 20-inch 9-speed Neo models (Shimano CUES 9-speed, 11–40T) have aluminium frames and are not compatible.
Which Java Neo carbon models does it fit?
The adapter is engraved "349/406/451", matching the carbon frames of the 16-inch J Air EX12, the 20-inch J Air and the 20-inch 451 J-Air R.
Can I upgrade a single-chainring J-Air to a double like the J-Air R?
Yes. The J-Air R uses the Java Neo carbon 20-inch frame, which has a mount for this adapter, and our unboxing article notes that single-chainring J-Air Carbon owners can buy the adapter separately and upgrade to a double with a front derailleur, double crankset and suitable shifting. The J-Air R comes with a 52/36T double and Shimano 105 Di2.
Does the adapter alone turn my bike into a double?
No. It only provides the front derailleur mount; you also need a front derailleur, a double crankset and a shifter or electronic system to control it. Please contact us before ordering to confirm the parts work together.
