The Java NEO J Air Carbon 20 inch is a tri-fold bike with a full carbon frame (J Air is the full-carbon-frame Java NEO), fitted with a Wheeltop electronic 12-speed drivetrain and hydraulic disc brakes, weighing around 9kg with pedals. Compared with the aluminum-frame, carbon-fork versions in the same range, this model upgrades the frame, fork and seatpost all to carbon.
Key Facts
- Category: 20-inch (ETRTO 406) tri-fold bike, full carbon frame (J Air)
- Brand: Java (Shenzhen Innovation-Wei Bicycle, a mainland China folding bike brand)
- Standout feature: Frame, fork and seatpost all upgraded to carbon, around 9kg with pedals
- Key numbers: approx. 9kg with pedals, Wheeltop electronic 12-speed (11–40T), 50T hollow crankset (170mm), hydraulic disc brakes
- Best for: riders who want a full carbon frame and a light 20-inch Java NEO
Why Choose the Full-Carbon Frame?
Most models in the Java NEO range use an aluminum frame with a carbon fork. This Carbon 20 inch version upgrades the main frame and seatpost to carbon as well, bringing the total weight with pedals down to around 9kg — about 1.5kg lighter than the aluminum-frame, carbon-fork 12-speed electronic model (approx. 10.5kg). The frame geometry is similar to the aluminum version, and it shares the same Wheeltop electronic 12-speed drivetrain (11–40T) and 170mm crankset, so shifting and power delivery feel the same — the main difference is frame material and weight.
Who It Suits
- Riders who want a light 20-inch Java NEO: around 9kg with pedals, lighter than the aluminum-frame versions
- Riders set on electronic shifting who want to upgrade to full carbon: the Wheeltop 12-speed electronic system shifts quickly and precisely
- Other option: for an aluminum frame, consider the Java NEO 20 inch Electric Shift 12-Speed Folding Bike (carbon fork, same drivetrain, slightly heavier); for a road-bike riding position, consider the drop-bar Java NEO Carbon 20" 451 105 Di2 Folding Road Bike (451 wheels, Shimano 105 Di2 2 × 12-speed, 52/36T, 11–34T)

FAQ
What's the difference between this and the Java NEO 20 inch Electric Shift 12-Speed Folding Bike?
Both use the same Wheeltop electronic 12-speed drivetrain (11–40T) and the same crankset (170mm, 50T). The main difference is frame material: the Java NEO 20 inch Electric Shift 12-Speed Folding Bike has an aluminum frame with a carbon fork at around 10.5kg; this page's version upgrades the main frame and seatpost to carbon too, bringing weight down to around 9kg.
How much does it actually weigh with pedals?
Around 9kg (the 16-inch J Air is around 8.3kg), about 1.5kg lighter than the aluminum-frame 12-speed electronic version (approx. 10.5kg). For the 16-inch version, see the Java NEO J Air Carbon EX12 16 inch Folding Bike.
Does the electronic drivetrain need charging? How often?
Yes, it needs regular charging. The system runs on a rechargeable lithium battery, and actual range depends on how often you shift and the temperature. Contact us if you'd like exact range and charging details.
Is the carbon frame durable? Can it crack?
Under normal use (no crashes or impacts), a carbon frame can comfortably handle everyday riding. When tightening bolts, use a torque wrench and never exceed the manufacturer's specified limit, to avoid crushing the carbon tubing. If you suspect the frame has taken an impact, check for cracks before riding.
Can it be taken on buses or the MTR once folded?
Java has not published a folded size for the carbon version; the aluminum Java NEO 20 inch folds to approximately 73 x 32 x 64cm (excluding pedals, combined approx. 169cm) — already close to the MTR's 170cm combined-dimension limit for luggage, and over it once pedals are included. If you plan to take it on the MTR, contact us before ordering to confirm the actual size. For buses, under the Public Bus Services Regulations (Cap. 230A) section 14, free baggage is capped at 5kg and 0.1 cubic metres — a folded bike typically exceeds this, so whether it's allowed on board depends on the bus company and driver.
Can I fit a kickstand to the J Air Carbon 20 inch?
Yes, but it needs a J Air-specific stand. The bike has no kickstand from the factory, so parking means folding the rear wheel. The Mr TiParts Aluminum Kickstand for Java Neo J Air 20 inch (130 g) or the Mr TiParts Carbon Kickstand for Java Neo J Air 20 inch (104 g) mounts under the rear disc brake and does not affect folding. Kickstands for the aluminium-frame Java NEO do not fit.
