Java NEO 20" Electric Shift 12-Speed Folding Bike
The Java NEO 20" Electric Shift version brings button-operated electronic shifting to a 20-inch folding bike, with an aluminium alloy frame, carbon fibre fork and a complete weight of about 10.5 kg with pedals. The 20-inch (406) wheelset offers better road-surface stability and cruising confidence than the 16" 349 platform, making this a good fit for riders who want a steadier ride and a taste of electronic shifting.
Key Facts
- Category: 20-inch (ETRTO 406) tri-fold folding bike, electronic shift version
- Brand: Java (Shenzhen ChuangXinWei Bicycle Co., mainland China folding bike brand)
- Standout feature: Wheeltop 12-speed electronic shifting paired with a carbon fibre fork
- Key numbers: approx. 10.5 kg with pedals, 12-speed electronic (11–40T), 50T hollow crank (170mm), hydraulic disc brakes
- Best for: 20" folding bike riders who want to try electronic shifting and have the budget for it
Why electronic shifting?
Electronic shifting replaces the mechanical cable with a button-triggered electronic signal, so there's no cable stretch to adjust over time and shifts feel lighter and more precise. The Java NEO 20" Electric Shift uses a Wheeltop 12-speed system with an 11–40T cassette — a noticeably finer gear spacing than the 9-speed version, making it easier to find a comfortable cadence whether you're accelerating on the flat or climbing. Compared with the 16" 349 platform, the 20" frame has a taller handlebar (about 100cm vs. about 92cm on the 16"), and the frame's rear triangle geometry was re-engineered rather than simply scaled up. For more on the 20" vs 16" differences, read Jollymap's Java Neo 20: What to Know Before You Buy (in Chinese).
Who it's for
- Riders curious about electronic shifting: no more fiddling with cable tension
- Taller riders or those who want a steadier ride: the 20" wheelset rolls over rough surfaces more confidently than the 16"
- Riders with a bit more budget for an upgraded folding bike: electronic shifting plus a carbon fork is one of the higher-spec builds in the range
- Less ideal for: riders who just want the smallest possible folded size on a tighter budget — see the Java NEO 9S 16" 349 instead
Key Features
- Wheeltop 12-speed electronic shifting: button-operated, fast and precise, with no cable stretch to worry about over time.
- Carbon fibre fork: lighter at the front end, with better vibration damping than an aluminium fork.
- 50T hollow crank (170mm): crank length optimised for the 20" wheel size, for smoother power delivery.
- Hydraulic disc brakes: consistent stopping power, wet or dry.
- Aluminium alloy frame: corrosion-resistant and durable for everyday commuting in Hong Kong.

Want a full carbon frame? See the Java NEO Carbon 20" 12-Speed Folding Bike (carbon frame as well as fork, not just aluminium). If you like the polished silver finish, see the Java NEO 20" Chrome Limited Edition, which also comes with a 12-speed electronic option.
Jollymap's Advice
The electronic shifter runs on a rechargeable battery; how often you need to charge it depends on how much you shift, but everyday commuting shouldn't need frequent charging. Contact us if you'd like exact battery life details. If you want to accessorise further, we also carry the Mr TiParts Carbon Kickstand for Java Neo 20". This model only comes in one frame size — if you're unsure whether the fit suits your height, please contact us before ordering with your height and inseam length.

FAQ
What's the difference between electronic and mechanical shifting, and is it reliable?
Electronic shifting replaces the mechanical cable with an electronic signal triggered by a button, giving lighter, faster shifts without cable stretch to adjust over time. Wheeltop electronic shifting is used on folding bikes and kids' bikes and holds up well for everyday commuting, but like any electronic component, wipe the bike down after riding in the rain and avoid prolonged water exposure.
Does the electronic shifter need charging? How often?
Yes, it needs regular charging. It runs on a rechargeable lithium battery, and actual battery life depends on how often you shift and the temperature. Everyday commuting shouldn't require frequent charging. Contact us if you'd like exact battery life and charging details.
How does this compare to the Java NEO 20" 9-Speed Carbon Fork Folding Bike — which should I get?
The 9-speed mechanical version uses a traditional cable-actuated drivetrain — more affordable and simpler to maintain. This electronic version shifts more effortlessly with finer gear steps, which suits riders who want to try the technology. Frame, fork and wheelset specs are otherwise the same; the main difference is the drivetrain.
Is the carbon fork durable? Could it crack?
Under normal use (no crashes or impacts), a carbon fork is just as durable as a metal one and dampens vibration better. When servicing, make sure torque values don't exceed the manufacturer's limits and use a torque wrench suited to carbon components. If the fork has taken a hard knock, check for cracks before continuing to ride it.
How much does the complete bike weigh with pedals?
About 10.5 kg.
Can I take it onto the bus or MTR when folded?
MTR requires that the combined length, width and height of hand-carried items does not exceed 170cm, with no single side over 130cm. The Java NEO 20"'s official folded dimensions are about 73 × 32 × 64 cm (excluding pedals, a total of about 169cm) — close to the limit; with pedals it is about 41cm wide (a total of about 178cm), which is over the limit, so remove the quick-release pedal before boarding. For buses, under the Public Bus Services Regulations (Cap. 230A) Section 14, the free baggage allowance is capped at 5kg and 0.1 cubic metres, which the whole bike typically exceeds — whether it's allowed on board depends on the bus company and driver.
Can I fit a larger cassette to make climbing easier?
It already ships with an 11–40T cassette, which covers most of Hong Kong's hills. If you want to modify other drivetrain parts further, check compatibility with us first so it doesn't affect the electronic shifting system's operation.
How is this different from the full-carbon Java NEO Carbon 20" 12-Speed Folding Bike?
The Java NEO Carbon 20" 12-Speed Folding Bike upgrades the frame to carbon fibre as well as the fork (this page's frame is aluminium with a carbon fork), for a lighter overall build at a higher price point.
