Why is it also called the "Korean version K9"?
Dahon Hong Kong lists this bike as "K9 349 (KAA693) International Model". Jollymap's article Dahon K3 Plus family comparison and the Korean-version K9 (in Chinese) calls it the export Korean version, and its photos show Korean safety labels on the frame.

What problem does it solve?
Many 16-inch folders use 305 wheels. Jollymap's article 257 notes that many owners upgrade to larger 349 wheels, and article 204 points out that the first-generation K3 Plus fork was too tight, so fitting 349 wheels meant replacing the fork too. The K9 comes with 349 wheels from the factory and a Deltec-reinforced frame, plus 9 speeds and disc brakes, so there is no need to modify it yourself. It still folds small enough for a car boot or a corner of your building lobby.
Who is it for?
The K9 suits commuters and weekend riders who want a 16-inch folder with 349 wheels. Jollymap's article 295 notes a height-adjustable handlepost and folding pedals. Two things to note: first, the official folded size adds up to about 173 cm, slightly over the MTR's 170 cm luggage limit; second, Dahon Hong Kong does not list a maximum load or rider height range for the K9, so please contact us before ordering if you are outside the typical size range.
349 wheels
349 and 305 are ISO rim diameters in millimetres. Both are called 16 inch, but the 349 wheel is larger. Dahon Hong Kong lists the K9 as 16 inch ETRTO 349.
Deltec frame cable
Deltec is a tension cable fitted under the frame, linking the head tube and the down tube to form a triangle. Dahon says it increases frame rigidity by about 15% and reduces stress on the folding joint. Jollymap's article 295 adds that the K9's gear and brake cables are routed along the Deltec cable to the rear for a tidier look.
Dahon custom 9-speed with disc brakes
Dahon Hong Kong specifies a "DAHON custom 9-speed disc brake" system. Photos in Jollymap's article 295 show Dahon's own shifter, rear derailleur and brake levers, a 55T chainring with a hollow bottom bracket axle and 170 mm cranks, and an 11–28T cassette.
Height-adjustable handlepost and luggage socket
According to the family comparison in Jollymap's article 295, the K9 handlepost can be raised and lowered, and there is a luggage socket on the head tube for a front bag or rack.

FAQ
How much does the Dahon K9 weigh?
10.4 kg. That is the weight Dahon Hong Kong lists for the K9 349 International Model; the Hong Kong Edition of the same bike is about 10.57 kg.
What wheel size does the Dahon K9 use?
16-inch 349 wheels (ETRTO 349). A 349 rim is larger than a 305 rim, even though both are called 16 inch; the K9X and K3 Plus 305 use 305 wheels.
What is the difference between the K9 and the K9X?
The K9 uses 349 wheels, Jollymap's article 295 notes a height-adjustable handlepost, and it weighs 10.4 kg (Dahon official). The K9X uses 305 wheels, an internally routed frame and a fixed-height one-piece handlepost, with MKS quick-release pedals and Tektro disc brakes, at 9.5 kg (Dahon official).
What is the difference between the K9 International version and the Hong Kong Edition?
Mainly the gearing and brakes. According to Dahon Hong Kong's product pages, the International version uses Dahon custom 9-speed disc brakes, weighs 10.4 kg and comes in Black, Cream and Dark Green; the Hong Kong Edition uses a Shimano Sora 9-speed shifter and rear derailleur, an 11–32T cassette and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, weighs about 10.57 kg and comes in White/Pink only. Both have 16-inch 349 wheels and aluminium frames, and neither includes a kickstand.
What is the difference between the K9 and the K3 Plus 349?
On paper they are very close. Both use 16-inch 349 wheels, 9-speed disc brakes and aluminium frames. Dahon lists the K9 at 10.4 kg, folding to 72 x 40 x 61 cm, and the K3 Plus 349 at about 10.44 kg, folding to 72 x 39 x 63 cm. Dahon specifies the K9's drivetrain as its custom 9-speed system, and the colours differ.
What is the Deltec cable?
Deltec is a tension cable fitted under the frame, linking the head tube and down tube to form a triangle. Dahon says it increases frame rigidity by about 15% and reduces stress on the folding joint; it is not a gear or brake cable.
Can I take the folded K9 on the MTR?
By the official folded size, it is slightly over the MTR limit. MTR rules say the length, width and height of luggage must not add up to more than 170 cm, and the folded K9 measures 72 x 40 x 61 cm, about 173 cm in total. On franchised buses, Regulation 14 of the Public Bus Services Regulations (Cap. 230A) only allows free carriage of items up to 5 kg and 0.1 cubic metres, which a folding bike usually exceeds; minibuses also make no guarantee.
Where is the Dahon K9 made?
Dahon was founded in the USA in 1982 and its main production base is now in Shenzhen. This K9 is the International Model listed by Dahon Hong Kong.
